I had to get gas really bad and I lost my purse along with my wallet that had my debit card and credit card and all I had to pay stuff with was checks. I am a college student and I go to college a long ways away from home. As I look back at it, it was pretty *** of me to go into a gas station and expect to pay them with a check because most places don't except checks anymore but I'm young and I'm still learning.

Anyways I went to go pay for my gas with a check and it gets declined. I ended up having to call by brother who lived near by to come pay for my gas for me. I was so embarrassed. To me the customer service was not very good at the gas stations. It was a smaller gas station and when I went to ask why my check was decline, he gave me a piece of paper with information that had telecheck on it.

I have worked at a grocery store before as a cashier and whenever I get a customer who pays with a check and the check is not working for the system and there isn't anything I can do about it, I always got my manager. I do NOT scare my customers by telling them that they better find another way to pay for their things. That is bad service. In the persons defense that was helping me, there wasn't anyone else in the store besides him but I still felt that he handled the situation poorly.

When I got home, I looked up telecheck on the internet to find out what they were all about. I found out that they were basically a company that tells certain businesses whether they should accept a check from someone or not. It has nothing to do with a history of bad checks or if you don't/do have money in your account. It is basically a system that tells businesses to decline you because you may serve as a risk.

I know there isn't a lot that I can do about telecheck but it just sucks in my situation being a young kid and being half scared to death about my check not going through. If you ever run into a store or gas station that uses telecheck, make sure you have a debit or credit card because there is a good chance they won't take your check.

You have a right to contact Telecheck and request a copy of your Consumer File Disclosure. If the report is inaccurate you have the right to have the inaccuracies corrected.

There are a few class action suits going on right now about this company, but exercise your rights under the FCRA first to determine what exactly is going on.

If you actually checked the Telecheck site, you should also have seen that most of the time when they decline a check it is because something makes them suspicious that it could be a case of identity theft.
